Delivery Services to begin picking up items for event

FROM RICE NEWS STAFF REPORTS

Rice’s popular campuswide “free”-cycling of unneeded office items will return June 3, and now is the time to start cleaning out desks and closets of unused or surplus supplies for the recycling program. On May 17, Delivery Services will begin picking up items for the event at which office supplies that were one department’s surplus can become another’s provisions — for free.

From appointment books, binders, coffee pots and clipboards to envelopes, highlighters, paper clips and toner, items to be recycled can be placed in a box marked “free-cycling,” and Delivery Services staff will pick up the box with outgoing mail. Departments that have large quantities of supplies can contact Delivery Services at rrojas@rice.edu to schedule a pickup before June 3.

For large items like chairs, file cabinets, pictures and white boards, departments should take a photograph of the item and send it along with contact information via interoffice mail to Ute Franklin, MS 555. The photograph and contact information will be displayed at the free-cycling event, and interested users can contact the donor directly.

Supplies can also be dropped off June 2 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Rice Memorial Center’s Grand Hall. Recycling bins will be available there for dead batteries, dead cell phones, empty toner and ink cartridges, bubble wrap, packing peanuts and electronics.

Items that can be listed on the Rice Classifieds should not be offered for free-cycling.

Free-cycling will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 3 in Grand Hall.

This event is sponsored by Delivery Services, Environmental Health and Safety, Procurement, the Sustainability Office, the Office of the Vice President for Administration and the Student Center.
