Rice’s General Counsel office named state’s best nonprofit legal department

Rice University’s Office of General Counsel has been named the state’s outstanding in-house legal department in the governmental/nonprofit category for 2008 by the Texas General Counsel Forum.

The forum, an association of nearly 500 Texas in-house leaders representing more than 325 companies, selected a panel of current and former general counsels to review nominations for its Magna Stella Awards, which acknowledge excellence in leadership and management for in-house legal departments in Texas.

Richard Zansitis, general counsel, and Carlos Garcia, senior associate general counsel, received the award on behalf of Rice at the forum’s 10th annual conference in San Antonio Nov. 13.
