White receives Bearden award

Roger White, head women’s tennis coach, received the 2007 Frank W. Bearden Award for Teaching Excellence in Rice’s Lifetime Physical Activity Program.

Students vote for a specialist who has exceeded the ordinary demands of teaching to inspire, support and encourage them to become physically active.

White has been an instructor in the Lifetime Physical Activity Program for six years and won the Bearden award in 2002 also.

The award is named in honor of the late Frank Bearden, a professor of kinesiology who taught at Rice almost 50 years. He died of cancer in 2002.
