A Fondren Library
exhibit will showcase the illustrations of graphic artist
Rolf Laub, whose work is featured weekly in the Houston
Chronicle.

Laub’s
exhibit, “Special to the Chronicle: State Lines Illustrations
1993-2001,” will be on display at the library rotunda
through Sept. 30. The exhibit features Laub’s illustrations
that have appeared in the State Lines feature of Texas Magazine,
a supplement in the Sunday Chronicle, since 1993. The essays
from Texas Magazine that correspond to Laub’s illustrations
also will be displayed.

As part of the
exhibit, Laub will deliver a talk Sept. 6 from 7 to 9 p.m.
in the library’s Kyle Morrow Room. Joining Laub’s
talk will be Ken Hammond, editor of Texas Magazine. A reception
hosted by the Consulate of Switzerland will follow.

The illustrations
that have appeared in State Lines are just a small segment
of Laub’s work, and they are his only designs that
are not done on a computer but with the traditional means
of pen, ink and watercolor.

Laub, who was
born in Zurich, Switzerland, has nearly 30 years of experience
as a graphic designer. In 1985, he started Laub Graphic
Design. Some of his current clients include Browne Penland
McGregor Stephens Architects, the Cascade Head Music Festival
in Oregon and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. He has contributed
to State Lines since 1989.
