Phils turn 25 and celebrate with virtual performance

The Rice University Philharmonics, commonly known as “The Phils,” didn’t let social distancing stop them from celebrating their 25th anniversary April 25.

The group, which is the oldest a cappella ensemble on campus, has released a video showcasing its “Same Old Blues-River” mashup, arranged by Vibha Sastri with solos from Sophie Marx and Dylan Rivera. The video is available online.

“This virtual concert not only celebrates our quarter-century milestone, but also lets us perform for a final concert, which was originally scheduled for last weekend,” said Natalie Gault, president of the group for 2020-21. “Although our members may be thousands of miles apart, we still sing with each other, even if online!”
