Paula Sanders, professor of history and director of Rice’s Boniuk Institute for Religious Tolerance, received a Certificate of Congressional Recognition from U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, in honor of “her distinguished academic career and strong commitment to the Houston community,” according to the certificate. The honor was presented Jan. 16 — which was declared Paula Sanders Day by the city of Houston — during a kickoff event for Latin Week Houston 2020, which is co-sponsored by the Boniuk Institute’s Arts of Tolerance program.
