Rice hosted its first December convocation Dec. 9 in the Stude Concert Hall inside Alice Pratt Brown Hall. President David Leebron welcomed the graduating students and their families before degrees were awarded by Seiichi Matsuda, interim provost and dean of graduate and postdoctoral studies, and Bridget Gorman, dean of undergraduates.

Rice commencement is typically celebrated in May or June, but the university has also held the convocation ceremony in February, October and April, during World War II. (Photo by Jeff Fitlow, video by Brandon Martin)
