Seasonal plant sale supports Rice’s Betty and Jacob Friedman Holistic garden

As cool weather finally hits Houston, Rice’s Betty and Jacob Friedman Holistic Garden is holding its seasonal plant and vegetable sale featuring varietals perfectly suited to the lower temperatures ahead.

Beginning Nov. 10, the garden will be selling cabbage, broccoli, lettuces, cauliflower, Asian greens, Chinese cabbage, arugula, dinosaur kale, curly blue kale, mizuna greens and other assorted herbs, all ready to plant. Each has been selected for its tendency to thrive during Houston fall and winter months.

Plants cost $2 each, or 10 for $15, while supplies last. The garden accepts cash and checks and is open from noon-2 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sundays, 4 p.m.-sunset Tuesdays and 5 p.m.-sunset Thursdays.

Each purchase helps support the operations of the garden, which was formally christened the Betty and Jacob Friedman Holistic Garden during an Oct. 3 dedication ceremony.

The garden is home to classes for Rice undergraduate students and offers volunteer opportunities for the entire Rice community. It also supports Rice Housing & Dining, as the produce grown on site is used in serveries across campus.

The Rice Holistic Garden is located south of the Rice Media Center, at the corner of College Way and University Boulevard.
