Houston architects honor three Rice professors

Three Rice Architecture stalwarts will be honored this year by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Houston chapter.

John Casbarian, the Harry K. and Albert K. Smith Professor of Architecture who is serving as interim dean of the school, and Danny Samuels, a professor in the practice and co-director of Construct, will be honored with the AIA Houston Award for Career Distinction at the organization’s annual holiday party in December. The honor recognizes their contributions as partners of Taft Architects.

Dawn Finley, an associate professor and director of graduate studies at Rice Architecture, has earned the annual Educator Award, to be presented at the annual AIA Houston meeting this month.

AIA Houston will also honor Rice alumnus and longtime Rice Design Alliance supporter Lonnie Hoogeboom, the director of planning and design at Central Houston Inc., with the Civic Vision Award for his work with the Houston Downtown Management District.

The annual meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 22 at Goodnight Charlie’s, 2531 Kuester St. The event is free and open to all.

The holiday party will be held at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
