Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra to kick off 2019-20 season Oct. 4-5

The works of Haydn, Verdi and Mahler will be presented by the Rice University Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra Oct. 4-5 as the ensemble kicks off the 2019-20 performance season. All performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. inside Alice Pratt Brown’s Stude Concert Hall.

The Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra will take the stage to perform Verdi’s “Overture to La forza del destino” under the direction of guest conductor and orchestral conducting graduate student Joshua Hong, and Mahler’s “Symphony No. 5 in C-sharp Minor.”

The orchestra is led by Larry Rachleff, the Walter Kris Hubert Professor of Orchestral Conducting.

Laboratory Road, northwest of Alice Pratt Brown Hall, is closed for the construction of the new Loop Road project, which affects access to parking. The easiest way to access West Lot 2 is to enter campus via entrance 18 off Rice Boulevard. When entering campus via entrance 17 at Shepherd Drive, turn left immediately after the George R. Brown Tennis Center. When entering campus via entrance 8 at Stockton Drive, turn left immediately after the Anderson-Clarke Center and follow signs to West Lot 2. At the conclusion of each concert, the easiest way to exit West Lot 2 is to turn left immediately after the gates and drive straight to exit campus via entrance 18.
