New summer exhibits now open at the Moody Center

Moody Center for the Arts summer exhibition opening, May 31, 2019

Patrons packed into a movie theater made from scratch at the Moody Center for the Arts during its summer exhibition opening May 31. Inside the Brown Foundation Gallery, a projectionist booth, screen and seating were installed to show artist Tacita Dean’s 16 mm film “Craneway Event.” The film will be screened three times daily through July 13.

Outside in the Central Gallery, the main wall was covered floor to ceiling with a site-specific installation by artist Gillian Wearing. “Wallpaper” presents photographic portraits of the artist that have been digitally aged by others, each unique portrait highlighting the unpredictability of time. A framed triptych in the center, “Rock ‘n’ Roll 70,” features a self-portrait of the artist at age 50, an enhanced image of herself at age 70 and a blank space to be completed by a self-portrait when Wearing turns 70 in 2033.
