Ex-Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz visits Rice, talks leadership

Howard Schultz, former chairman and CEO of Starbucks, visited Rice March 6 for a discussion on leadership and the lessons he has learned over the course of his life and business career. Speaking to a capacity audience at Rice’s Baker Institute for Public Policy, Schultz also shared insights from his biography, “From the Ground Up: A Journey to Reimagine the Promise of America.”

Following a 45-minute speech, Schultz participated in a Q&A with Mark Jones, professor of political science in Rice’s School of Social Sciences and fellow at the Baker Institute and Rice’s Kinder Institute for Urban Research. Prior to the public event, which was hosted by the Baker Institute and Rice’s Jones Graduate School of Business, Schultz and Rice President David Leebron met with a group of students to discuss current issues.
