REMEMBERING PRESIDENT GEORGE H.W. BUSH
It’s now Donald Trump’s America. But George Bush’s stamp endures.
Numerous articles and broadcasts on the legacy of former President George H.W. Bush in the wake of his death Nov. 30 at age 94 mention that he formerly taught at Rice. Rice community members quoted or mentioned include President David Leebron; James Baker III, honorary chair of Rice’s Baker Institute for Public Policy and former U.S. secretary of state; Edward Djerejian, director of the Baker Institute; Douglas Brinkley, the Katherine Tsanoff Brown Professor in Humanities; and Mark Jones, the Joseph D. Jamail Chair in Latin American Studies, professor of political science, fellow in political science at the Baker Institute and fellow at Rice’s Kinder Institute for Urban Research. Former President Barack Obama, who spoke at the Baker Institute’s 25th anniversary celebration, is also quoted, and the 1990 G7 Economic Summit hosted at Rice is mentioned in the Houston Public Media articles.
