Baker Institute’s Payan honored by Mexican government

Tony Payan, center, director of the Mexico Center at Rice’s Baker Institute for Public Policy, received the Distinguished Mexican Award from Mexico’s government for his leadership and contributions in the United States at a ceremony at Houston City Hall Nov. 6.

Payan is among 31 global recipients of the 2018 award. Other honorees, from scientists to artists, reside elsewhere in the U.S. and in Europe, Africa and Asia.

The Consulate General of Mexico in Houston presented a silver medallion and certificate to Payan at the ceremony, which was attended by members of the Rice and Houston communities. (Photos courtesy of the Baker Institute)
