Rice students hold vigil in memory of Pittsburgh synagogue victims

Candlelight Vigil Oct. 29A candlelight vigil in memory of the victims of the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting was held Oct. 29 in the Academic Quadrangle. Sponsored by the Rice chapters of Hillel and Chabad, the evening vigil offered Rice students an opportunity to extend their sympathy to the families of the 11 people killed inside the Tree of Life synagogue Oct. 27.

“We must challenge and condemn such hate in all its forms, whoever its victims,” Rice President David Leebron wrote in a statement inviting the Rice community to the vigil. “It is a chance for all of us, even with our silent presence, to speak out forcefully against those whose words or actions lay the foundation for such hate and terror.” (Photos by Jeff Fitlow)
