Rice is the No. 1 university in Texas and the Southwest, according to new rankings from College Factual. The rankings are based on data related to factors such as loan default rates, graduation rates and average starting salaries of graduates.

Rice academic disciplines ranked in the top 20 nationally by College Factual are listed below.

Biochemistry, biophysics and molecular biology: No. 7.

Chemical engineering: No. 10.

Applied mathematics: No. 11.

Ecology, evolution and systematics biology: No. 14.

Chemistry: No. 15.

Geological and earth sciences: No. 15.

Economics: No. 15.

General architecture: No. 18.
