NAFTA renegotiations in focus at Rice’s Baker Institute April 17

HOUSTON – (April 12, 2018) – Karen Antebi, economic counselor for the Trade and North American Free Trade Agreement Office at the Embassy of Mexico in Washington, D.C., will speak at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy April 17 on the latest developments in the ongoing NAFTA renegotiations, including potential new provisions for the energy sector.

A panel of experts will also provide perspectives from Canada, the U.S. and Mexico on the drivers of growing cross-border energy trade and investment within North America and how this could be enhanced or inhibited by the potential outcomes of the NAFTA negotiations.

Hosted by the Baker Institute’s Center for Energy Studies and Mexico Center as well as the Trade Leadership Coalition, the event is free and open to the public but registration is required.

Who: Featured speaker Karen Antebi, economic counselor, Trade and NAFTA Office, Embassy of Mexico in Washington, D.C.

Panelists Hector Castro Vizcarra, representative of Mexico’s Ministry of Energy, Embassy of Mexico in Washington; Aaron Annable, energy counselor, Embassy of Canada in Washington; Maryam Sabbaghian Brown, vice president of federal government affairs, Sempra Energy; and Adrian Duhalt, postdoctoral fellow in Mexico energy studies at the Baker Institute.

Francisco Monaldi, fellow in Latin American energy policy at the Baker Institute, will serve as moderator.

What: An event titled “NAFTA Negotiations and North American Energy Trade.”

When: Tuesday, April 17, 9-11:30 a.m. Registration and a continental breakfast begin at 8:30.
