Antonios Mikos, the Louis Calder Professor of Bioengineering and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, has been selected for the 2019 Acta Materialia Gold Medal for his outstanding leadership in the field of science and engineering of biomaterials. Acta Materialia is an international, peer-reviewed journal for biomaterials science, including the interrelationship of biomaterial structure and function from macroscale to nanoscale.

Rice graduate student Hsinhan (Dave) Tsai was one of eight people selected for gold awards for a presentation of his work on tuning perovskites for optoelectronics at the Materials Research Society spring meeting April 6 in Phoenix. Out of 300 who applied, he was among 24 finalists to present at the conference. Tsai, whose related work on basic solar cell technology was published this month in Science, is a member of the lab of Pulickel Ajayan, chair of Rice’s Department of Materials Science and NanoEngineering, the Benjamin M. and Mary Greenwood Anderson Professor in Engineering and a professor of chemistry.
