A ‘spring fling’ for engineers

Engineering competition

Rice University students celebrated national Engineers Week with a head-to-head competition in the Grand Hall Feb. 21 to build the best catapult. The competition sponsored by the Rice Global Forum gave teams two hours to build a contraption using the materials supplied to fling a pingpong ball over a barrier and back and be caught within a predefined range. The winners were computer science majors Jay Ryu, a junior, and seniors Frank We and Namgun Kim and chemical and biological engineering major Stephen Kim, also a senior. (Photos by Jeff Fitlow)
