Rice panel puts trans-Atlantic relationship in focus

A panel of experts gathered at Fondren Library’s Kyle Morrow Room Oct. 13 to discuss new policy ideas to modernize the trans-Atlantic relationship in the 21st century.

The panelists — including Rice experts in politics and international relations and Thomas Meister, consul general of Germany in Houston (at lectern) — commented on foreign-policy ideas proposed by 30 fellows of the Atlantic Expedition, a German-U.S. program organized by the nonpartisan Atlantic Initiative, an organization that aims to empower a younger and more diverse generation of leaders in trans-Atlantic relations. The fellows visited Houston Oct. 11-14 and participated in the panel.

The event was hosted by Rice’s Politics, Law and Social Thought Program, a joint initiative of Rice’s School of Humanities and School of Social Sciences. Christian Emden, professor of German studies and co-director of the Politics, Law and Social Thought Program, served as moderator.
