Rice Theatre to present ‘Rumors’ Oct. 5-7, 12-14

HOUSTON — (Sept. 27, 2017) — Rice University Theatre will present “Rumors” by Neil Simon. Performances will be at 8 p.m. Oct. 5-7 and Oct. 12-14 at Hamman Hall, 6100 Main St.

In this door-slamming farce, four couples arrive at the well-appointed townhome of New York City’s deputy mayor and his wife for their 10th anniversary party. The first couple to arrive finds the mayor wounded and the wife and servants missing. As more guests arrive, there are cover-ups, deceptions and, of course, rumors as the evening spins off into comic mayhem.

The production will be directed by the head of the Rice Theatre Program, Christina Keefe. Keefe’s recent directing credits include “Bound” for the Houston Grand Opera’s East + West Series and Rice’s productions of “Proof” and “Eurydice.” She recently acted in the Classical Theatre Company’s production of “Henry V.”

Mark Krouskop, lecturer and production manager for the Rice Theatre Program, will be the set designer for “Rumors.” He previously designed the outdoor set for “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” the raining elevator for “Eurydice” and the Italian village in “Servant of Two Masters.” Krouskop also has done set design for the Houston Shakespeare Festival’s productions of “A Comedy of Errors” and “Hamlet.” The costumes will be designed by Marley Foster, a senior visual and dramatic arts major, who also designed the costumes for Rice’s production of “Proof” last spring.

Tickets are $5 for Rice students; $8 for Rice alumni, faculty, staff and senior citizens; $10 for general admission; and $5 for groups of 10 or more. Tickets are available in advance at 713-348-4005. For a Rice University map and parking information, visit http://parking.rice.edu.
