‘Monotype/Monothon’ on display at Rice Media Center Gallery

In conjunction with PrintHouston 2017, a citywide summer celebration of original prints, the Department of Visual and Dramatic Arts is presenting “Monotype/Monothon” at the Rice Media Center Gallery. The exhibit features monotypes and monoprints produced by artists John Alexander, Josh Bernstein, Natasha Bowdoin, Will Fowler, Patrick Palmer and Heather Rowell at Rice’s Sewall Hall printmaking studio in early June. Their works will be on view through Aug. 15. While at Rice, the artists worked with Patrick Masterson, master printer at Houston’s Burning Bones Press; Karin Broker, professor of printmaking and drawing at Rice; and Cathie Kayser, an artist and printmaker at Burning Bones Press.

Pictured above are, from top left to bottom left, Bowdoin’s “Kissing Frog,” “Croc Twin 1,” “Kissing Frog 2” and “Croc Twin 2.” Pictured below is “Please Help Me, My Brain Is Burning” (1994) by Texas artist Julie Speed, printed by Masterson. The Rice Media Center Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
