9 Rice faculty on prominent ‘highly cited’ list

Nine Rice University faculty members have been named to the Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers list for 2016.

The annual list administered by Clarivate Analytics, formerly the intellectual property and science business of Thomson Reuters, recognizes leading researchers in the sciences and social sciences. More than 3,000 researchers in 21 science and social science fields are named.

The list focuses on contemporary research achievement as reflected in journal publications from 2004 through 2014. Highly cited papers are those ranked in the top 1 percent by citations for field and publication year in the organization’s Web of Science Core Collection.

The Rice researchers are:

Pulickel Ajayan, the Benjamin M. and Mary Greenwood Anderson Professor in Engineering, professor and chair of the Department of Materials Science and NanoEngineering and professor of chemistry and of chemical and biomolecular engineering.

Pedro Alvarez, the George R. Brown Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering,  of chemistry and of materials science and nanoengineering.

Bonnie Bartel, the Ralph and Dorothy Looney Professor of Biochemistry and Cell Biology.

Naomi Halas, the Stanley C. Moore Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, professor of chemistry, of bioengineering, of physics and astronomy, and of materials science and nanoengineering.

Antonios Mikos, the Louis Calder Professor of Bioengineering and professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering.

Peter Nordlander, professor of physics and astronomy, of electrical and computer engineering, and of materials science and nanoengineering.

Gustavo Scuseria, the Robert A. Welch Professor of Chemistry and professor of physics and astronomy, and of materials science and nanoengineering.

Tayfun Tezduyar, the James F. Barbour Professor of Mechanical Engineering.

James Tour, the T.T. and W.F. Chao Professor of Chemistry and professor of computer science and of materials science and nanoengineering.
