High-flying learning at Rice

Drone Camp

Twenty-five Houston-area middle school students explored the engineering and science of drone technology and unmanned aerial vehicle systems at the 2016 Rice Drone Camp June 6-10. They also examined the social and cultural implications of technological advances during the camp, which was hosted by the Rice Center for Engineering Leadership and TrumbullUnmanned. Through sessions with Rice University faculty, professional engineers, Air Force pilots and content experts, students had a chance to learn about sensor design, aerodynamics, GPS and control systems, technical troubleshooting and other topics. The program also included project-based learning experiences and hands-on training in drone operation. (Photo by Jeff Fitlow)
