BioSciences helps celebrate World Oceans Day at HMNS

Faculty and students from Rice’s Department of BioSciences and the Rice Oceans Club helped the Houston Museum of Natural Science celebrate World Oceans Day June 5. Rice’s dynamic exhibit featured life-sized vinyl banners of coral reefs displayed on the museum floor that Rice faculty member Adrienne Simoes Correa created for her Intro to Aquatic Ecology with Scuba Lab. Correa, undergraduates Elaine Shen, Maya Iyer, Marie Jacobsen and Rice BioSciences alum Cora McKenzie ’16 represented Rice and used the banners to educate several hundred museum patrons about coral-reef ecology and the importance of maintaining healthy reefs.
