Rice featured by Fiske Guide and Money magazine

Rice University is featured in the 2016 edition of Fiske Guide to Colleges and also appears on Money magazine’s Best Colleges list.

The new Fiske Guide profiles the “best and most interesting” schools in the U.S., Canada and Great Britain based on information about the student body, academics, social life, financial aid, campus setting, housing, food and extracurricular activities.

Noting that Rice is “one of the few elite private colleges that keeps tuition relatively affordable,” the Fiske Guide cites Rice as “a good deal among top schools” and “the dominant university in the Southwest” and mentions its “top-notch programs in the liberal arts and sciences.” The guide states that Rice “continues to attract more and more top talent from around the country.” Highlighted quotes from students include “We have Logos for Money magazine's best colleges and Fiske Guide to Collegesbeen challenged to think creatively” and “You can’t really characterize Rice students because there’s such a great diversity on campus.”

Rice is No. 14 — the highest among Texas universities — on Money’s list of schools “that provide the best value for your tuition dollar.” The value ranking is based on educational quality, affordability and career earnings for alumni.

“Rice University is one of the most elite private colleges in the Southwest,” the Money profile said. “The classes are small, and undergraduates have opportunities to work with some of the world’s top researchers.”

Money quoted one student as saying, “In nearly every class I’ve taken here, the professor has learned my name. Rice students regularly chat, dine and even hang out with our highly accomplished professors.” Another said, “Students come from all over the world, and each and every one has unique experiences and characteristics that have shaped Rice’s culture into one like no other.”
