Rice EMS honored for excellence

Rice Emergency Medical Services (REMS) was recognized with three awards at the National Collegiate EMS Foundation’s annual conference Feb. 27-March 1 in Baltimore. REMS won Collegiate EMS Video of the Year and “Striving for Excellence,” which is awarded to campus emergency medical services that represent the gold standard of delivery and care and the benchmark against which other campus-based EMS groups should compare themselves. This is the sixth time REMS has earned this award. REMS Director Lisa Basgall was recognized as the Collegiate EMS Advisor of the Year. “This was only possible because I am privileged to work with the most amazing group of students,” Basgall said. REMS members who attended the conference were (from left) REMS founder and Medical Director Mark Escott ’96, Ibrahim Akbar, Ryan Pappal, Nitin Agrawal, Dixita Viswanath, Samantha Leonard, Mollie Ahn, Trevor Eisenberg, Will Letchinger and Basgall.
