‘Self-care is self-preservation’: Rice gets moving during Stride Out Stress

Stride Out Stress

Rice University President Reginald DesRoches and Paula Gilmer DesRoches met a group of Owls at the Gibbs Recreation and Wellness Center April 26 for Stride Out Stress, a way to get the campus community involved in and receive the health benefits associated with physical activity during National Stress Awareness Month.

“As many of you know, Paula and I are deeply committed to our mental and physical health,” Reginald DesRoches said. “We understand the importance of positive health habits and work hard in our own lives to practice good self-care because we recognize that, in many ways, self-care is self-preservation, and we can only bring our best selves to the table when our well-being buckets are full.”

The university will announce additional information about future We Walk! We Run! events. Also, the Gibbs Center offers an array of fitness resources to the community.
