Heather McGhee, visiting lecturer in urban studies at the City University of New York, discussed themes from her new book “The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together” March 29 at McMurtry Auditorium. The renowned public policy expert examined structural racism as the driver of inequality — not just for people of color, but for everyone.

The event was sponsored by the Office of the President; the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Will Rice College; the Center for African and African American Studies; the Center for Civic Leadership; the Center for Engaged Research and Collaborative Learning; and the School of Social Sciences.
