Rice is ranked No. 2 for diversity and affordability and tied for No. 5 for research in the latest edition of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education's Sustainable Campus Index. The index recognizes top-performing colleges and universities in 17 sustainability impact areas, as measured by the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System, a voluntary framework for institutions to measure, report and strengthen their contributions to global sustainability.
