Former Pemex CEO González Anaya to speak at Rice's Baker Institute
HOUSTON – (Feb. 18, 2020) – José Antonio González Anaya, one of Mexico’s leading economists, a former secretary of finance and public credit and former CEO of Pemex, will visit Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy Feb. 28 to discuss his perspective on the outlook for Mexico’s economy and oil sector.
The event, hosted by the Baker Institute's Center for Energy Studies and Center for the United States and Mexico, is open to the public. Registration is required at www.bakerinstitute.org/events/2053.

In 2019, economic growth in Mexico slowed to a halt and foreign investment in new projects faltered, despite the flourishing U.S. economy next door. Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has been surprisingly pragmatic in trade and fiscal policy but has curtailed or reversed the implementation of the country’s historic energy reforms, according to event organizers. Such developments have clouded the prospects for Mexico’s future, organizers said.
