The Arbor Day Foundation has recognized Rice University as a Tree Campus Higher Education institution.

Rice, whose campus is officially designated as an arboretum, has consistently met the foundation’s five core standards for effective campus forest management: a tree advisory committee, a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for the campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance and a student service-learning project.

Tree Campus Higher Education, formerly known as Tree Campus USA, is a national program launched in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation that honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in conservation.
