Jim Krane, the Wallace S. Wilson Fellow for Energy Studies at Rice’s Baker Institute for Public Policy, won the Association for Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies’ 2019 Book Prize at the Middle East Studies Association’s annual meeting Nov. 14 in New Orleans. Krane’s book, “Energy Kingdoms: Oil and Political Survival in the Persian Gulf,” highlights the challenges and complexities faced by leaders of the petroleum-fueled Persian Gulf kingdoms as well as the implications for the United States and the rest of the world.

Neal Lane, a senior fellow in science and technology policy at Rice’s Baker Institute for Public Policy, was inducted to the Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools’ Wall of Fame Nov. 18. Lane is a graduate of Oklahoma City’s Southeast High School.
