Israeli security expert to discuss critical issues facing country at Rice’s Baker Institute

HOUSTON – (Sept. 24, 2019) – Retired Israeli Maj. Gen. Amos Yadlin, executive director of the Institute for National Security Studies at Tel Aviv University, will visit Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy Sept. 26 to discuss seven key security issues facing Israel’s incoming leaders.

On Sept. 17, Israel held an unprecedented second round of national elections, the results of which will determine the country’s next cadre of decisionmakers. The new Israeli government will face not only a contentious domestic political scene, but also a number of complex national security and defense challenges in an evolving Middle East, according to event organizers.

The event, hosted by the Baker Institute’s Center for the Middle East, is free and open to the public but registration is required.

Who: Retired Israeli Maj. Gen. Amos Yadlin, executive director of the Institute for National Security Studies at Tel Aviv University.

Baker Institute Director Edward Djerejian, a former U.S. ambassador to Syria and to Israel, will introduce Yadlin.

What: A presentation titled “Seven Decisions Facing Israel’s Next Security Cabinet.”

When: Thursday, Sept. 26, 6:30-8 p.m. A reception will be held at 6.

Where: Rice University, James A. Baker III Hall, Doré Commons, 6100 Main St.

The public must RSVP for the event at www.bakerinstitute.org/events/2028. A live webcast will be available at the event page. The social media hashtag for the event is #BakerMiddleEast.
