Essays written in French by Duncan College senior Meredith McCain and McMurtry College sophomore Annelise Goldman were published in the inaugural issue of L’Indécis au Précis, a peer-reviewed journal affiliated with UCLA’s Department of French & Francophone Studies. McCain describes debates among Muslim feminists in France over the government’s ban on women wearing the niqab; Goldman focuses on the meeting point between Arabic and French slang to better understand the assimilation of Maghreb immigrants into French culture.

Rice Senior Associate Athletic Director/Chief Operating Officer Tanner Gardner was inducted into the Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame Sept. 20 in Stanford, California, and recognized at the Cardinal’s Sept. 21 football game. Gardner, who wrestled for the university from 2004-08, is one of only two three-time All-Americans in program history and is the school’s all-time leader in wins with 145.
