Luis Duno-Gottberg, associate professor of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies, presented “Mimicking a State: Lumpen Sovereignty, Peace Zones and Carceral Order in Contemporary Venezuela” as part of “Pais Portátil III: Re-thinking the State: Criminal Organizations and Militarized Violence in Venezuela” April 30 at Princeton University.

Esther Fernández, assistant professor of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies, presented “Technologies of Entertainment in ‘Don Quixote, Part II'” April 4 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also participated in a roundtable discussion titled “How to Train a Dragon: Reaching Young Audiences through Shadow Puppets” and in a performance of “Second Hands and the Ladies Man,” shadow puppetry based on plays by Francisco de Quevedo, during the 2019 symposium of the Association for Hispanic Classical Theater April 11-13 in El Paso, Texas.
