James Furr, a senior lecturer at the Rice School of Architecture and former managing principal of the Houston office of architecture firm Gensler, will be honored with the 2019 Landmark Award for lifetime achievement in real estate by the Houston Business Journal on April 11 at the Marriott Marquis Houston. Furr, a registered architect, has practiced in Houston and other locations for 48 years. He joined the Rice faculty in 1992.

David Brockman, a nonresident scholar in the Baker Institute for Public Policy’s Religion and Public Policy Program, received a 2019 Wilbur Award from the Religion Communicators Council for his Texas Observer op-ed, “When Islamophobia Backfires.” The Wilbur Awards honor excellence in communicating religious issues, values and themes in secular media. Brockman also won a Wilbur Award in 2018.
