Presidential visit

President David Leebron presented Texas state Sen. Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe, chair of the Senate Committee on Higher Education, with a Rice football helmet during a visit to the Capitol in Austin March 4. Leebron spent the day meeting with legislators about the university’s legislative priorities and providing updates on initiatives such as the Rice Investment and the Texas Policy Lab at the School of Social Sciences. He visited with Creighton and senators Borris Miles, D-Houston; Larry Taylor, R-Friendswood; and Royce West, D-Dallas; and enjoyed dinner with Rep. John Zerwas, R-Richmond, the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, and Chris Turner, D-Grand Prairie, the chairman of the House Higher Education Committee.
