Byrne named fellow of Association for Psychological Science

Michael Byrne, a professor in Rice’s Department of Psychological Sciences, has been named a fellow of the Association for Psychological Science (APS), the leading international organization dedicated to advancing scientific psychology across disciplinary and geographic borders.

Fellow status is awarded to APS members who have made sustained outstanding contributions to the science of psychology in the areas of research, teaching, service and/or application. Fellow status is typically awarded for scientific work, but it may also be awarded for exceptional contributions to the field through the development of research opportunities and settings. Candidates are considered for fellow status following 10 years of postdoctoral contributions.

“Obviously it is a personal honor to be named a fellow of APS,” Byrne said. “However, I think more than anything it reflects the quality of the department. I would not have been named a fellow without the great colleagues and students I have and have had in Psychological Sciences here at Rice. It’s really a team win.”

Byrne is interested in human factors and human-computer interaction, human performance modeling, statistics, cognition, visual attention and decision-making. He joined Rice in 1999.
