Educators explore immigration law at Rice

OISS + SEVP

Educators from across Houston filled the Founder’s Room of Lovett Hall Nov. 9 for a specialized training program focusing on immigration regulations and F-1 student visas. The Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) hosted the half-day session for local K-12 school officials as part of its efforts during International Education Week 2018.

Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Fred Higgs and Adria Baker, the executive director of the OISS, introduced the day’s events by noting that such efforts help Rice achieve its goals for its Vision for the Second Century, Second Decade (V2C2) — particularly in engaging Houston and extending Rice’s reach and impact both at home and abroad.

Following opening remarks, Student and Exchange Visitor Program field representative Bridget Canty trained the table of 21 school officials on protocol and laws for helping international students maintain their F-1 visas. Afterward, the K-12 educators enjoyed lunch at Cohen House and a tour of the campus. (Photo by Andy Meretoja)
