A sneak peek at the Moody’s new ‘Crepe Paper Carpet’

Crepe Paper Carpet at the Moody Center for the Arts

Dutch art collective We Make Carpets gave the Rice community a sneak peek at its first U.S. installation June 8 at the Moody Center for the Arts. The new work, “Crepe Paper Carpet,” is assembled from 65,000 sheets of folded crepe paper stacked in an intricate pattern, inspired by the piñatas that hang in the open-air stalls of the Canino Produce Market on Airline Drive in Houston. The installation debuted to the public the following day at a Summer Jam event featuring food trucks, a mariachi performance and an artist talk and is on view in the Moody Center’s Central Gallery through Sept. 8.
