Ohio Gov. Kasich to speak at Rice’s Baker Institute April 18

HOUSTON – (April 11, 2018) – Ohio Gov. John Kasich will visit Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy April 18 for a moderated public discussion with the institute’s director, Ambassador Edward Djerejian.

Members of the public can attend this Baker Institute Director’s Lecture Series by paying $15 when they register for the event, which is part of the 25th anniversary commemorative programs of the Baker Institute.

Who: John Kasich, governor of Ohio, and Ambassador Edward Djerejian, director of the Baker Institute.

What: “Director’s Lecture Series: A Conversation with the Honorable John Kasich.” During the program, Kasich will answer written questions from the audience.

When: Wednesday, April 18, 6:30 p.m. A reception will be held at 5:30.

Where: Rice University, James A. Baker III Hall, Doré Commons, 6100 Main St.

Kasich was sworn in as Ohio’s 69th governor on Jan. 10, 2011, and re-elected to a second four-year term in 2014. As governor, Kasich has promoted policies to produce a jobs-friendly climate, close an $8 billion budget shortfall, reduce taxes, cut wasteful spending and eliminate red tape, according to his official biography. In addition, he has addressed issues including drug abuse and addiction, infrastructure development, health care reform, immigration and international trade.

Prior to Kasich’s gubernatorial terms, he served as a member of Congress from central Ohio for 18 years. After leaving Congress in 2000 and running for president, Kasich worked as a managing director in the investment banking division of Lehman Brothers. Kasich is the author of four New York Times best-sellers, most recently “Two Paths: America United or Divided,” which reflects on his 2016 presidential campaign and his hopes for America’s future. Kasich, is a graduate of The Ohio State University and lives in Westerville, Ohio, with his wife, Karen Waldbillig Kasich, and their twin daughters, Emma and Reese.

The Director’s Lecture Series was created and endowed by Edward and Françoise Djerejian to provide a forum for Baker Institute Roundtable members, faculty and students to engage in some of the most relevant and pressing domestic and foreign policy issues.
