Who knew that Rice has a badminton club — and that it won second place at the annual Texas Intercollegiate Badminton Association tournament April 7? The Rice Badminton Club competed with teams from seven other universities at the Houston Badminton Center. The University of Texas at Austin won the tournament, which was established in 2013 by members of the Rice Badminton Club. The club currently has over 50 active members, including amateur players, semiprofessionals and professionals. It practices three times a week at the Houston Badminton Center and the Gibbs Recreation and Wellness Center and competes all year long. Club President Li Yang said the team plans to represent Rice this fall in the Southern region of the Intercollegiate Badminton Association Tournament. (Photo by Li Yang)
