Financing climate change mitigation is topic at Rice’s Baker Institute April 2

HOUSTON – (March 29, 2018) – Klaus Trömel, former secretary general of the European Investment Bank and a Rice University alumnus, will visit the university’s Baker Institute for Public Policy April 2 to discuss the bank’s work as the world’s largest multilateral provider of climate finance.

The bank commits at least 25 percent of its funding to climate change adaptation and mitigation in Europe and developing countries.

Hosted by the Baker Institute’s Center for Energy Studies and Rice’s Jones Graduate School of Business, the event is free and open to the public but registration is required.

Who: Klaus Trömel, former secretary general of the European Investment Bank.

What: A presentation titled “Financing Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation: The Role of the European Investment Bank.”

When: Monday, April 2, 4-5 p.m. A reception will follow Trömel’s presentation.

Where: Rice University, James A. Baker III Hall, Kelly International Conference Facility, 6100 Main St.

Over the next five years, the European Investment Bank will provide around $100 billion for climate-related projects. In his presentation, Trömel will discuss the types of projects and the countries in which the bank is planning to invest.

Trömel served as the secretary general of the European Investment Bank from 2015 until his retirement this month. He earned his MBA from the Jones School in 1985.
