John Boles, the William Pettus Hobby Professor of History, discussed his new biography, “Jefferson: Architect of American Liberty,” at the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia Jan. 18. It was the first talk in a 275th anniversary-year series on founders and renowned members of the nation’s oldest learned society, which was founded by Benjamin Franklin in 1743 “for promoting useful knowledge.”
