Shepherd School alumni part of Grammy Award-winning ensemble

Alumni from Rice’s Shepherd School of Music were part of the ensemble that received the 2018 Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording at the 60th annual Grammy Awards ceremony Jan. 28.

Grammy awardThe Houston Symphony received its first Grammy win for its performance of Alban Berg’s “Wozzeck.” A small number of important roles and the larger chorus for the production included alumni of the Shepherd School. In addition, some members of the Houston Symphony are Shepherd School alumni.

The recording also earned the ECHO Klassik Award, considered the equivalent of a European Grammy.
