Factors that were used for the ranking include student surveys on student life, campus quality, athletics, local area, diversity, campus nightlife, safety, full-time and part-time retention rates and six-year graduation rate.

Niche, a website geared for college applicants, claims to have “the most comprehensive data available on U.S. schools and neighborhoods” and “over 100 million reviews and poll responses along with transparent statistics and comparable grades.”

Earlier this year Rice was also ranked No. 1 for quality of life by the Princeton Review on the basis of student surveys.
