‘New Approaches to Climate Policy’ in focus at Rice’s Baker Institute Nov. 16

HOUSTON — (Nov. 13, 2017) — A panel of experts will gather at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy Nov. 16 to address approaches to dealing with the challenges of climate change. The discussion will include issues such as carbon tax implementation, ecosystem service valuation, direct regulation and technological innovation.

Hosted by the Baker Institute’s Center for Energy Studies, the event is free and open to the public but registration is required.

Who: Panelists Jason Albritton, director of climate and energy policy, U.S. Government Relations Office, The Nature Conservancy; Jim Blackburn, professor in the practice of environmental engineering at Rice and a Rice Faculty Scholar at the Baker Institute; former U.S. Rep. Bob Inglis, R-S.C.; and Catrina Rorke, associate fellow at the R Street Institute.

Ken Medlock, the James A. Baker III and Susan G. Baker Fellow in Energy and Resource Economics at the institute and senior director of the Center for Energy Studies, will give welcoming remarks and serve as moderator. Marilu Hastings, vice president, Sustainability Programs, The Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation, and Inglis will give opening remarks.

When: 4-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16 (Registration begins at 3:30; a reception will follow the panel.)

Where: Rice University, Baker Hall, Kelly International Conference Facility, 6100 Main St.

This event will also serve as the final leg of republicEn.org’s EnCourage Tour 2017, which has been raising awareness of principles for climate leadership nationwide. The tour has focused on stimulating conversations across the U.S. to explore opportunities for unlocking the power of free enterprise to accelerate energy innovation and rise to the challenges of climate change.
