KTRU to celebrate 50th anniversary with special concert, annual Outdoor Show

KTRU will kick off its 50th anniversary celebration with a performance by Jandek, the musical project of Houston record label Corwood Industries. Jandek will perform at 8 p.m. April 21 in Hamman Hall. The performance is open to the public, but seating is limited. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Festivities will continue with the 26th Outdoor Show, which will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. April 22 in the Rice University Central Quad. The music festival will feature Jamila Woods, Saba, Bayonne, Free Radicals, Rose Ette, Mayapuris, David Morgan, Charles Moon and Steve Cox’s Beard, winner of the KTRU Battle of the Bands.

Hosted by Rice’s student-run radio station, the show is free and open to all ages.

In addition to music, the festival will feature booths staffed by student and local organizations. Refreshments can be purchased from a number of food trucks that will be on-site. BYOB is not permitted; there will be a beer garden for adults 21 and older.
