Reckling Park to install new video board

The Rice Owls baseball team will install a new 1,000-square-foot Daktronics LED video display at Reckling Park. The new board, which ranks as one of the largest in college baseball, will replace the original video board that was installed at Reckling Park prior to the 2008 season.

Since its opening in 2000, Reckling Park has consistently ranked among college baseball’s top venues as the Owls have averaged better than 3,000 fans per game and served as a host for NCAA postseason play 11 times.

“Our fans are important to us, and we are happy to enhance their experience with a new video board from Daktronics,” said Rice University Director of Athletics Joe Karlgaard. “Thank you to the university, Judy Allen and Audrey Ley, and the RBI Club for making this critical investment in Reckling Park.”

The new right-field display will measure approximately 21.5 feet high by 47 feet wide and will feature a 15 high definition pixel layout to provide crisp, clear imagery with wide-angle visibility from every seat in Reckling Park. The display has protective netting and advertising panels to represent Rice’s sponsors throughout events. The outgoing board at the park is approximately 17 feet high by 35 feet wide.

The new display will be able to show one large image or present viewers with multiple windows of content such as live video, instant replays, graphics and animations, special announcements and other event information.

Daktronics will also provide a content package of graphics and animations to bring the new display to life.

The video board’s display technology features industry-leading environmental protection for a long lifetime with consistent performance and low power consumption, according to Daktronics.
